The fifth installment of the SsangYong Rexton has revamped its image, improved its inside and increased his power. It is already available from 37,200 euros, once the introductory discounts have been applied, which add up to 2,700 euros.

SUV fashion and the new concept all the way they have almost wiped traditional off-road cars off the map. But some resist and among them is the Korean SsangYong Rexton, a model with four-wheel drive. 4×4 classic approach that has earned a well-deserved reputation as a robust Y polyvalent family-sized SUV (4.85 meters).

The Rexton is a model that was launched in 2002 and that, throughout its five generations, has added in Spain 20,000 registrations. His own architecture, with chassis of longitudinal members and crossbars attached to a steel body of high resistance, already differentiate it from most current SUVs, which use structures self-supporting similar to that of passenger cars and that are less resistant off the asphalt.

But it is not the only jacket peculiarity of the Rexton, since its basses have a great distance free to the ground (224 millimeters) to be able to circulate with guarantees off the roads. In addition, its transmission has a series Four-wheel drive connectable by means of a command on the console and which also offers a reducing of gears to tackle the most difficult terrain.

A more technological interior and better response

The new Rexton is modernized on the outside by adopting a new grill with a three-dimensional aspect that is more attractive. It also changes the design of the bumpernow with a more dynamic appearance, and which now has integrated exhaust pipes at the rear.

On the side, the Rexton’s silhouette has been freshened up with new moldingssome wheel arches of more marked aspect and some alloy wheels with three different designs to choose from in measures of 17, 18 either twenty inches.

The interior of the Rexton has gone up in quality of materials and now the whole presents a more premium. The steering wheel multifunction is newly designed and the traditional instrument panel has been replaced by a 12.3-inch digital display that integrates all the information and is also configurable to the driver’s taste. And when it comes to the controls, the lever of the gear selector has been replaced by a more modern control type joystick.

For the rest, the interior space has not changed, offering five seater very loose and comfortable thanks to some seating of generous dimensions and a third rowretractable under the floor when not in use, which makes it possible to carry two more passengers.

The trunk offers a capacity of 240 liters with the seven seats available and increases to 872 with the settings of five seats. And if the second row is also folded down, the cargo space goes up to 1,806 litres. And it also highlights the accessibility of the gate rear, for offering a large loading mouth and incorporating as standard a system of smart opening that recognizes the proximity of the key and activates the electric motor to open it automatically.

The engines of the Rexton

The mechanics of the Rexton is another differentiating feature of the model. Contrary to the general trend, it focuses on a 2.2 turbodiesel engine which has been thoroughly revised and increases its power to the 202 CV, 20 more than in the previous one. And no less decisive, it also increases the torque that reaches 441 Nm (21 more) and significantly improves the answers at low and medium speed.

At the wheel, the new Rexton stands out for its comfort of march, thanks to its amplitude, an effective suspension and a good soundproofing. And although a weight high (2,105 kg) and a tare damping soft they subtract dynamism in curves, it transmits a very consistent sensation thanks to equipping numerous systems of active safety and of aids to driving.

The range of the SsangYong Rexton is made up of three trim levels: Pro (37,200 euros with introductory discounts), Premium (41,800) and the top Limited (49,800) which, in addition to incorporating a more complete series kit, has a differential lock rear to improve its efficiency off the asphalt.

The gate is automatic and intelligent opening.
