THE GREAT FIGURES ARE BACK

Spain is located in Group L, the same as the Icelandic team, with a record of three wins and one loss. This group of six teams distributes three passports for the World Cup, so the victory could be essential to achieve classification. The rival, Iceland, is establishing itself in the European elite. In the first qualifying round they beat the Netherlands twice and Italy at home. Tryggvy Hlinason or Pavel Ermolinskij or Martin Hermannssonthe three with experience in the Endesa League, are some of its main names, although the latter suffered a serious knee injury during the past playoffs.

In Group L, Spain, Italy and Iceland are currently tied with 7 points, while Georgia have 6, Ukraine 5 and the Netherlands close the group with 4 points.

This match corresponds to the first window of the second qualifying phase for the 2023 World Cup, but it will also serve as preparation for EuroBasket 2022, which will take place from September 1 to 18 this year in Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy, having been delayed due to the pandemic, as it was scheduled for September 2021.

The final squad for this second phase will be known this week and the team that will finally play in Pamplona will be announced the days before the match. However, Fernando Romay has confirmed that the main players will be present, “since the national team plays a lot in this game and Iceland is a team with several players in NBA orbitin addition to being the last game before the European Championship, in which we have the confidence to obtain a good result”.
