Hyundai Ioniq 6: the prophecy is electrified

The Hyundai Prophecy unveiled in 2020 left us wanting more. The Korean firm sported a concept car of indisputable beauty, halfway between a long-awaited future and a respected past. Their rounded and sensual lines, with hardly any edges and with an aerodynamic appearance, took over the media. A few hours ago we got to know the final result, the production car, which is based on that prototype: the Hyundai Ioniq 6. It is an electric sedan, with equally sinuous shapes, which will compete with reference models such as the Porsche Taycan.

This will be the new Hyundai Ioniq 6, with 4.86 meters long.

We still do not have much information about the propulsion and chassis section, but the Korean firm has left us speechless with the first images of this Ioniq 6. This daring four-door tourism, with measurements of 4.86 meters long by 1.88 meters wide and 1.49 meters high It’s funny wherever you look at it.

Its silhouette will inevitably remind you of endless things, in my case I have seen a yacht that sails the seas at full speed. With special mention to the lighting section, which integrates more than 700 parametric pixels in parts such as headlights, taillights, sensors and decorations on the air outlets. To develop it, they have used the E-GMP platform of the Ioniq 5, to which we recently awarded the 2022 Readers’ Car of the Year Award and which was the first electric car to get your highest vote.

The flagship in 2023

Your is not expected arrival until 2023 and will be officially presented in July, when the firm reveals all the specifications of the car. For now, we know that it will maintain the same propulsion system that the Ioniq 5 already mounts. It is an 800-volt system, capable of charging other electrical devices thanks to the vehicle-to-load function but of which we do not know if there are improvements.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has been designed under the Emotional Efficiency mantra.

For now, the Ioniq 6 has shown us its clean and simple lines described by its designers as Emotional Efficiency. This concept refers to the clear aerodynamic function of its bodywork, which has resulted in an almost natural and sculpted image under the Ethical Uniqueness design languageyes In short, the demonstration that electrification and environmental responsibility they can also lead to pleasing and impressive aesthetics.

As SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center comments: “IONIQ 6 poses a emotional convergence of functionality with aesthetics”. An example of this is the aerodynamic coefficient they have achieved, with a 0.21 Cx that directly rivals a Tesla Model S. Elements such as the camera-type mirrors and the elliptical spoiler, complete with a boat tail and the sides of the rear bumper, are key to achieving this figure.

An Ioniq interior

The technological leap of the Ioniq family at Hyundai continues to be the trend in this sedan that, how could it be otherwise, exploits the presence of the screens to the fullest. We have two screens, 12.3 inches each, located in a predominant location on the dashboard. A structure of which we highlight the lighting and the straight shapes, closer to a prototype than to a production car, which have been developed to offer a 64 color spectrum and six themes indicated for comfort and relaxation.

The interior follows the pattern set by the Ioniq 5, with two joined 12.3-inch screens.

Hyundai wanted to highlight, especially, the use of reused materials. Outside, the body paint is acquired thanks to the recycling of bamboo charcoal pigments and tires for the coating. Inside, and depending on the equipment, we will find ecological leather, PET fabric, biological TPO leather on the dashboard and paint derived from vegetable oils for the doors.
