Samsung triples the turnover of its folding in Spain

Galaxy Z Flip is the model that has experienced the greatest growth, multiplying by six the number of units sold in Spain in the first half of 2022 compared to 2021

The Samsung Galaxy Z range, in its third generation, already accounts for 15.6% of the turnover of smartphones worth more than 600 euros from Samsung

Madrid, July 28 – The Samsung Galaxy Z range, which is already in its third generation, has become one of the favorite options for many users. Nearly 10 million foldable smartphones were shipped globally last year, marking an increase in this category of more than 300% since 2020.

Spanish users have also chosen Samsung folding as one of their favorite options. The Galaxy Z series has significantly increased its sales and in the first half of 2022 it has tripled the turnover of these models compared to the same period last year. In addition, in the first half of 2022, the folding segment accounts for 15.6% of the turnover of Galaxy smartphones with a value greater than 600 euros. Last year, in the same period, it accounted for 4.8% of all smartphones with that value.

The Galaxy Z Flip model has been the main protagonist of the democratization of folding smartphones. Its groundbreaking price has allowed its sales from January to June of this year in Spain to multiply by six compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, Galaxy Z Fold, the flagship of the range, multiplies by four the number of units sold compared to the first half of last year.

“We have a strong commitment to innovation, and we have no limits in creating the smartphones of the future. And the proof is that Spanish users choose us as their trusted brand, since we are leaders in smartphone sales throughout 2022” explained David Alonso, responsible for Samsung’s Mobile Experience business in Spain.

For his part, Valentín Hernández, Director of Marketing for Mobilie Experience at Samsung Spain, explained the importance of creating unique strategies for the user. “The Galaxy Z range has accounted for 10% of the sales of some of our promotions; and it is clear that we rely on campaigns that reinforce the personality of our devices. Mónica Naranjo is the image of our folding products, an example of how passion and the search for innovation give rise to different experiences and moments for people”.

Samsung’s commitment to society and the planet

Beyond the commitment to users through innovation, Samsung works to improve society and break down barriers through technology. In Spain, the example of this commitment is “Technology with Purpose”, the local initiative that this year celebrates its tenth anniversary and in which the company has invested more than 25 million euros to carry out its own initiatives, in addition to collaborations with public organizations and private, in the fields of education, accessibility, employability and well-being.

On the other hand, in the framework of Galaxy for the Planet, Samsung’s sustainability platform, the company aims to expand the use of recycled materials to all new Galaxy products, remove single-use plastic from packaging, reduce standby power consumption of all chargers of smartphones; and ensure that no waste is generated in landfills by 2025.

An example of this is the use of recycled materials from discarded fishing nets found in the oceans in the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Book2 Pro, which were launched earlier this year.

Every year, 640,000 tons of waste from fishing nets are dumped into the sea. With the help of like-minded partners, a new high-performance material has been developed that can be incorporated into Galaxy devices. By the end of 2022, Samsung could prevent more than 50 tons of fishing nets from remaining in the oceans thanks to their reuse.
