Either because of the natural and heritage environment that the province offers, or because they are emblematic, idyllic places, by recommendation or even because of that calm that it offers, something further away from the media noise, from the crowds… Segovia becomes one one of those places chosen by celebrities to get married. Ceremonies, banquets and famous guests are already part of the history and life of these places.

The most recent (and surely it will not be the last), took place last Saturday, June 25. The instagramer Lucía Pombo and Álvaro López were married in the Segovian castle where Juana la Loca lived, the Castilnovo County castle. A day before, on Friday June 24, the one who said yes I do, this time in the Segovian town of Ayllón, was the Real Madrid footballer Dani Carvajal, who married Daphne Cañizares. Teammates such as Marco Asensio, Fede Valverde, Jesús Vallejo, Thibaut Courtois, Lucas Vázquez, Nacho… passed through the Segovian town, as well as teammates in the national team such as Pablo Sarabia and Marcos Llorente.

Four years earlier, in 2018, in that same place in Ayllón, in Los Claustros, the singer David Bisbal and Rosanna Zanneti were married in an intimate and very discreet ceremony. The chosen place houses the ruins of an old Franciscan monastery with more than 800 years of history, known in the area as the old convent of San Francisco.

That year 2018, another of the great weddings was celebrated, this time in Segovia capital. Mayra Alexandra Capriles, daughter of the construction tycoon Miguel Ángel Capriles, cousin of the Venezuelan politician and then leader of the opposition to Maduro, Henrique Capriles, married the real estate businessman Eduardo Ignacio Otaola. The link was attended by a large representation of the Venezuelan business aristocracy. Among the guests, names like Adriana Carolina Herrera, daughter of the designer, and Margarita Vargas, wife of Luis Alfonso de Borbón. The religious ceremony was held in the church of San Miguel, in the Plaza Mayor of Segovia.

Almost eight years ago, in July 2014, in the hermitage in the gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, Belén de Guindos, daughter of Luis de Guindos, then Minister of Economy, married the Portuguese economist Gonzalo Diniz. The link brought together the top leadership of the Government in the Segovian town, with the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, the Vice President Soraya Sáez de Santamaría, the Minister of Finance Cristóbal Montoro… who was headed by President Mariano Rajoy. After the ceremony, the guests went to Madrona to celebrate the nuptials at the Hotel Finca Lasmargas.

In the province of Segovia, the wedding of Gema Ruiz (ex-wife of politician Francisco Álvarez Cascos) with Juan Díaz also took place. It took place in the monastery of Santa María La Real, in Sacramenia. The guest list included names like Paloma Cuevas, Anne Igartiburu or the singer Edurne.

On February 14, a special day (Valentine’s Day), in 2011, Toñi Salazar, a member of the musical duo Azúcar Moreno, married Roberto Liaño in Segovia. The banquet took place at the Hotel Cándido and among the guests were well-known faces such as Ana Obregón, the singer Falete, Los Chunguitos, her nieces, members of the group Alazán, Juanito ‘El Golosina’…

Segovia has also been the scene of film weddings. The actors Lucía Jiménez and Benito Sagredo said yes I want in Segovia, the hometown of the bride. It was in August 2008, in the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuencisla, patron saint of the city, and the banquet, in charge of El Rancho de la Aldegüela, took place in the Antiguo Esquileo, in Cabanillas del Monte, a building from the XVIII.

And ceremonies with magic, such as the one held in December 2008 by the magician Juan Tamariz, who married the Colombian Consuelo Lorgia at the Segovia Town Hall. There, before the mayor Pedro Arahuetes, they said yes I do. It was a short, intimate ceremony, with his daughter Ana Tamariz as the wedding godmother. The party ended at La Floresta restaurant.

Media repercussion had the wedding reception in the old shearing of Cabanillas del Monte by Borja Thyssen, son of Baroness Carmen Cervera, and Blanca Cuesta. It was in October 2007. The religious ceremony had already been celebrated a few days before in the parish church of the Holy Spirit in Tarrasa and the Segovian bishopric then informed that it did not grant authorization to celebrate marriages in private chapels of any kind, so the wedding could not be celebrated canonically in that place.

The day before, in that month of October 2007, in the church of San Eutropio, in the town of El Espinar, Fernando (Gigi) Sarasola and Teresa (Tita) Astolfi got married. The link brought together guests from the business world, the aristocracy and society, with names such as Ana Obregón, Paulina Rubio and Nicolás Vallejo-Nágera, Carmen Martínez Bordiú, Cari Lapique, Jaime Ostos, Mar Saura, Eugenia Silva, Luis Astolfi. ..

And 18 years ago, in September 2004, the royal family had a wedding at La Granja de San Ildefonso. The King and Queen of Spain, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, and the rest of the members went to the municipality to attend the marriage of Beltrán Gómez Acebo, son of the Infanta Pilar de Borbón, with the model Laura Ponte. At that time, those who were Princes of Asturias and now Kings of Spain, Felipe de Borbón and Letizia Ortiz, acted as witnesses
