Especially, of the slasher; that subgenre characterized by the existence of a villain who kills a group of teenagers one by one, generally in typical summer locations, such as camps, abandoned towns or lush forests. The genre is also characterized by offering sequels, a “final girl” who survives all the horror and because the villain ends up becoming the great icon of the franchise. For this reason, we want to talk to you about several entertaining, fun and perfect Netflix slasher movies to watch in summer.

6 perfect Netflix slasher movies to watch this summer:

1.- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

We start with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022); reboot/sequel directed by Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) of the original 1974 film. Following the events of the original film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre introduces us to a group of teenagers looking for investors to gentrify the town of Harlow, in the one where the terrible murders by the Sawyer family occurred, 50 years ago. However, they soon find out that Leatherface is still living there. Full of gore and satire towards today’s modern society, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is perfect whether you’re new to the saga or if you’re a fan of previous titles.

2.- Don’t Breathe (2016)

If we are talking about Fede Álvarez, it is inevitable that we recommend Don’t Breathe; slasher that arrived in 2016 and that caused a stir among fans by reinventing certain elements of the genre. Don’t Breathe features three thieves, who want to break into the home of a blind war veteran, who is rumored to be hiding a large sum of money. But they do not count on the fact that, despite his disability, this veteran is perfectly trained for any danger. Don’t Breathe has a sequel released in 2021 and we hope it won’t take long to reach a streaming platform.

Cult film and one of the great icons of the genre, in addition to being the film that launched James Wan (Insidious, The Warren File) and Leigh Whannell to fame, Saw is one of the great slashers that everyone has to see least once. The film introduces us to two strangers, the photographer Adam (played by Leigh Whannell himself) and Dr. Lawrence Gordon, who wake up chained in a bathroom with no memory of how they got there. Both must solve the clues left by the murderer who has locked them up, known as Jigsaw, and enter his macabre game, if they want to escape from there alive.

One of the representative films of the 90s slasher and one of the most important, Urban Legend takes urban legends as its starting point, something that we have rarely seen in the cinema. On this occasion, a group of young university students (led by Jared Leto) begin to die at the hands of a serial killer who bases their deaths on urban legends. Little by little, they will discover that these murders are related to “the Stanley Hall massacre”, which occurred on the same campus 25 years ago. Cult film that encompasses the aesthetics of 90s horror and offers one of the most charismatic villains of the time.

5.- No one sleeps in the forest tonight (2020)

6 perfect Netflix slasher movies to watch this summer

This Polish slasher, produced by Netflix itself, gives the genre a twist as we know it, combining the typical elements of the genre with new technologies and millennial teenagers as protagonists. Precisely, the story is based on said group of teenagers, who decide to spend a few days in the forest without an Internet connection to “rehabilitate” their addiction to technology. But they don’t count on the fact that a mysterious force lives in that same forest and is determined to disconnect them forever. Despite its low cost, this film offers a novel proposal and something far removed from the North American tropes of the genre.

6.- Halloween night (2018)

Sequel/reboot of the original 1978 film, Halloween Night has been one of the most critically and publicly acclaimed and most successful slashers of recent years. Director John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis reunite in this film, which takes as its starting point the events that occurred in the original film to return us to the town of Haddonfield after Michael Myers escapes from the psychiatric hospital in which he is locked up. As soon as Laurie Strode learns the details of Michael’s onslaught, she’ll have no choice but to confront the demons she’s been running from for decades.

Without a doubt, Halloween is the best slasher of recent times, so don’t hesitate to give it a try.
